WeCallBull  is designed for the intelligent consumer of modern pop culture.  Every time we watch a TV show, kick back for a movie, or open the pages of a book we accept the fact that we're going to have to suspend our disbelief a little to enjoy the experience.  It's only natural. For some genres, we're willing to suspend that disbelief significantly.  For others not so much.  What may be perfectly acceptable in a science fiction movie might seem ludicrous is a documentary.   A fan of Lost, for example, is intrigued by the idea of a smoke monster terrorizing the crash survivors.  If that same smoke monster turns out to be the killer in an episode of Law & Order, it's time to CALL BULL. On this site, I want to give everyone an outlet to express his or her frustrations when the writers of our favorite televisions shows, movies, and books go to far.   You may not be able to strictly define what warrants a BULL call,  but you know it when you see it.   The intelligent viewer will often find such situations just a little insulting.  I hope that when you see(or read about) such a situation, you'll take a moment to tell us about it here at WeCallBull.com.  Everyone is welcome to post to the site pending a one time approval.  If you'd like to CALL BULL,  be sure to read the posting guidelines. I hope that everyone feels free to comment about the postings made on this site.  We should be able to get some lively discussions about just what is possible and what is not. While I believe this site will certainly spark some interesting intellectual fodder, I also believe the potential is there for a positive social impact as well.   One of the biggest challenges facing prosecutors in today's world is what has come to be known as the C.S.I. Effect.  Jurors  now expect to see the volume of scientific evidence that's portrayed on C.S.I. and other crime shows in real life courtrooms.  When they don't see DNA evidence presented or trace elements broken down to base chemicals by a mass spectrometer many jurors assume that the police just didn't do their job or that the suspect must be innocent.  The truth is that very few police labs (if any) are equipped with the tools needed for that type of investigation.  On top of that, many of the techniques shown on those shows are based on theoretical possibilities and not practical applications.  That when we need to CALL BULL.  By doing so, we both work to  educate the populace and perhaps hold the writers feet to the fire. I don't want to completely ignore genres such as science fiction and fantasy.  Those need to be held to a different standard based more on logical consistency than on real possibilities.  True fans of sci-fi and fantasy know if a show, movie, or book is really good then it maintains a certain scientific integrity.  It establishes quickly that boundary of how far we're willing to suspend our disbelief.  When that boundary breaks down, it's time to CALL BULL.
